Government official says Gibran cannot be impeached after court ruling
Indonesia’s Constitutional Court ruled on a challenge to documents used to show that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka met the education requirement to run in the 2024 election.
The court rejected the case because the applicants did not have legal standing.
It also said it found no document proving Gibran had completed education abroad equivalent to high school, and that the matter fell to other institutions with authority over it.
Government communications chief Syahganda Nainggolan said the executive branch respected the court and that Gibran could not be impeached.
He said the issue could still proceed through political or other legal channels, but did not specify how.
The government is monitoring developments, while Gibran has said he respects the court process and will focus on his work.
