Russian warehouse insurance costs surged as drone attack risks rose
Russian warehouse insurance rates surged in the third quarter of 2026, rising 13 to 20 times from a year earlier.
The increase followed a series of drone attacks on large warehouses, including facilities used by Wildberries and Ozon.
Insurers and brokers say the biggest price rises affect large sites and major logistics centres, especially in Moscow, St Petersburg and nearby regions.
The average rate reached about 2% of the insured property’s value, while some high-risk sites faced quotes of 5% to 20%.
Drone attack cover drove most of the increase: it accounted for more than 90% of the premium in the third quarter, while rates for traditional property risks were unchanged.
Insurers also shortened the period for fixing rates on drone cover from 12 months to six and raised deductibles, which are the costs clients pay themselves after a claim.
Coverage limits have also been tightened, with new reinsurance rules limiting drone-risk cover for most warehouses to no more than 20% of their insured value.
The average Russian warehouse insurance tariff rose 13 to 20 times year on year in the third quarter of 2026, reaching 2% of insured property value.
The increase followed attacks on large warehouse sites and was driven mainly by the cost of cover for drone attacks.
For some large warehouses, premiums rose much more sharply, with one broker estimating cover for a warehouse holding 10 billion rubles of stock at up to 500 million rubles.
Insurers also shortened the period for fixing drone-risk rates from 12 months to six months and raised deductibles for large warehouses.
