Bihar suspends school headmaster over allegations of selling meal rice

Bihar has suspended Sunil Kumar Srivastava, the in-charge headmaster of a government school in Bhawanipur, East Champaran.

He is accused of selling rice set aside for pupils’ mid-day meals.

Officials also cited rice stocks that did not match the school register and an allegation that he slept on the school premises.

The allegations were reported by the district education officer on October 7, 2026.

Srivastava was asked to provide an explanation and submitted one on October 10, but officials found it unsatisfactory.

The mid-day meal scheme is intended to provide nutritious food to children in government schools, so the allegations concern food meant for pupils.

He is now suspended while disciplinary proceedings take place, and he will receive a subsistence allowance during the suspension.
