Imran Khan and two others released after detention at Mumbai protest

Mumbai Police detained actor Imran Khan, his girlfriend Lekha Washington and his cousin Zayn Marie Khan at August Kranti Maidan.

They had joined a demonstration supporting the CJP movement, which called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign.

Khan said he was there as a private citizen, not as a representative of an organisation.

The three were later released, and Washington said they were safe and trying to get home.

She said police were not letting them take a cab, so they walked.

Police said the protest did not have permission and that demonstrations were allowed only at Azad Maidan under Bombay High Court directions.

CJP workers said they had emailed police for permission but received no response.
