Indonesia’s OJK Plans Four Tiers for Online Lending Operators

Indonesia’s OJK Plans Four Tiers for Online Lending Operators

Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority, known as OJK, plans to place online lending operators into four tiers under a proposed rule change.

The tiers would be based on operators’ financial health, the share of funding they direct to small and medium-sized businesses, and the rate at which they reject consumer complaints.

OJK says the plan is intended to improve governance and risk management, reward strong performance and protect consumers.

Under the draft, operators in tiers 2 to 4 could be exempt from an existing maximum-funding rule.

Those tiers would have different funding ceilings and limits on how much of an operator’s total funding can come from a single lender.

For tier 2, the proposed ceiling is 3 billion rupiah; it is 4 billion rupiah for tier 3 and 5 billion rupiah for tier 4.

OJK says it will set further rules on how operators are assigned to tiers.
