Indonesia Seeks Stronger Links Between Big Investors and Local Businesses
At a business meeting in Jakarta, Deputy Coordinating Minister Dradjad Hari Wibowo said Indonesia needs stronger links between large investors, medium-sized firms and micro, small and medium businesses.
He said the country should produce more goods at home rather than act mainly as a market for products.
These links can help local businesses gain work through supply chains, production partnerships and wider access to markets.
The government recorded 300.1 trillion rupiah in downstream investment in the first half of 2026, equal to 29.7% of total investment.
Dradjad said large investment needs to turn into production and include local businesses.
The government is promoting domestic products, simplifying local-content certification and addressing business obstacles.
It also wants to improve financing and market access for smaller firms, while expanding international trade opportunities.
Indonesia’s government says links between large investors and medium-sized and small local businesses need to be strengthened.
Deputy Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Dradjad Hari Wibowo said stronger connections could help spread investment benefits through supply chains, production partnerships and wider market access.
He said Indonesia should become a production base, not merely a market for products sold domestically.
The government reported downstream investment of Rp300.1 trillion in the first half of 2026, but said investment needs to translate into production and local business involvement.

What people are saying
Indonesia needs to be a production base, but not merely a market. What we need to improve is the link between large investments and medium-sized investments and small and micro businesses.
Inclusive and independent economic growth requires a strong business community. God willing, HIPPI members will become drivers of the people’s economy and creators of quality jobs.
