Turkey hosts International Astronautical Congress in Antalya

Turkey is hosting the 77th International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, bringing together more than 10,000 people from 111 countries.

The event is coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, with the Turkish Space Agency and SAHA Istanbul as co-hosts.

More than 40 astronauts are taking part, alongside scientists, space companies and newer space businesses.

The congress includes research presentations and discussions about future scientific work and international partnerships.

Its public activities have also featured displays of Anatolian crafts and culture for visiting astronauts.

Turkey’s industry and technology minister, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, said the country wants space to remain a place for peaceful cooperation rather than conflict.

He said the Antalya Declaration, prepared under Turkey’s lead and joined by participants from 32 countries, carries that message.

The congress also opened a space-themed science center near Lake Salda in Burdur, with the stated aim of inspiring children and young people to become future scientists and astronauts.
