Argentine experts urge shared meals to help shape young people’s eating habits

Experts in Argentina are promoting recommendations on food and mealtimes for children and teenagers aged 2 to 17.

The initiative, called NutreAR, aims to adapt guidance to the needs of different ages.

Its foundations were presented at the Argentine Congress of Pediatric Nutrition, organized by the Argentine Society of Pediatrics.

The recommendations cover food choices and amounts, as well as habits, lifestyle and children’s relationship with food.

Sharing meals can help young people try new foods by watching family members, friends or other adults eat them.

Experts say one shared meal a day may help, including meals with friends rather than only with family.

The recommendations aim to support varied eating habits instead of a narrow range of foods.
