IMSS workers plan national march with support from other unions
Medical staff at Mexico’s Social Security Institute, known as the IMSS, announced a peaceful national march for Oct.
14.
Workers from the Metro, the state oil company Pemex and the ISSSTE public-sector health and social security institute, along with teachers from the CNTE, have pledged support.
The protest comes amid workers’ complaints about pay, working conditions and shortages of medical supplies and medicines.
They are also demanding the removal of Rafael Olivos Hernández, head of the IMSS workers’ union.
Workers said they would march rather than stage mass absences, and would try not to disrupt care for patients.
They warned that if a protesting worker is punished, fired or detained, they would immediately begin a hunger strike.
The groups are holding an assembly to decide on further actions and proposals for the federal government.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
No repression; if they touch one of us, they touch us all. If the first worker is sanctioned, fired or detained, we will immediately begin a hunger strike.
If it is not given sufficient infrastructure, we will end up with a universalization of precariousness, and our people do not deserve that.
The workers have the decision to take the future of their organization into their own hands.
