Sheinbaum accuses Calderón of allowing US agencies to operate in Mexico

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum accused former president Felipe Calderón of allowing US agencies to operate freely in Mexican territory.

She also said his government opened the way for decisions about Mexico’s economic policy to be made from abroad.

She made the remarks at her morning news conference on October 9, as she called for defending Mexico’s sovereignty and remembering its history of pressure from foreign powers.

Sheinbaum said she discussed border security and efforts to combat fentanyl with US Ambassador Ronald Johnson at a meeting with business leaders.

That gathering focused mainly on investment, Mexico’s revenue law and the trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada.

She said she and Johnson would hold a separate working meeting soon with Mexico’s foreign secretary.

She described cooperation with the United States as based on respect for sovereignty and coordination without subordination.
