Durazo says Morena should look beyond surveys when choosing 2027 leaders

Alfonso Durazo, governor of Sonora and chair of Morena’s National Council, warned party members against choosing leaders based only on survey results.

He said some people may boost their standing by paying for media and social media coverage instead of building support among local members.

Durazo argued that winning a survey does not necessarily mean a person represents Morena’s goals.

The party is setting rules for state coordinators who could become candidates in the 2027 elections.

At its council meeting, members were also due to vote on the party’s alliance policy.

Durazo urged Morena to protect its alliance with the Green Party and the Labor Party through dialogue.

Morena’s national leader, Ariadna Montiel, also told 17 state coordinators to stay close to the public.
