Morena names 17 state coordinators ahead of Mexico’s 2027 elections

Mexico’s Morena party held a national council meeting in Mexico City as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

The party formally appointed 17 state coordinators who are expected to compete for governorships in their states.

Citlalli Hernández, who leads Morena’s national elections commission, praised the Green Party for supporting coordinators in Querétaro, Campeche and Colima.

Her comments came amid tension with the Labor Party over the selection of state coordinators.

The Labor Party has said it will put forward its own candidate for governor of Michoacán, and is considering senator Raúl Morón Orozco.

Morón finished second in Morena’s internal process to choose the state coordinator.

The meeting was part of Morena’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
