Türkiye says 17 investment funds have completed liquidation
Türkiye halted trading in 131 investment funds in September after suspected share-price manipulation caused heavy losses and investors sought to withdraw money.
The funds were run by seven asset management companies, and nearly half a million investors were affected.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz said payments to nearly 44,000 investors were made last Thursday, settling 17 funds run by three companies.
Talks are continuing with Atlas's owners, and Yılmaz said an agreement on ordinary liquidation could be reached this week, allowing about 58,000 investors to be paid that way.
The government-backed Justice and Development Party has proposed a law for extraordinary liquidation, but Parliament has not yet passed it.
Under the draft, investors could receive up to TL 1 million of their principal, with final amounts later adjusted to account for their rights and obligations.
Yılmaz said the law could allow payments within this month if it passes, and that no public money or state guarantee would cover the funds.
