Turkey to expand state-backed farm insurance to more crops in 2027

Turkey plans to expand its state-backed agricultural insurance system, TARSİM, in 2027.

The basic insurance package will cover 25 crops, up from nine for damage from frost before the coverage period begins.

The 16 newly added crops include walnuts, almonds, figs, kiwis, bananas and chestnuts.

A pilot insurance scheme covering yield losses, especially from drought, will run in Tekirdağ, Şanlıurfa and Kayseri, with plans to extend it across Turkey later.

Other changes include insurance for more crop and livestock risks, and cover for landslides caused by snow in beekeeping insurance.

The amount covered for each beehive and the payment for greenhouse covering repairs will also rise.

The changes are planned for 2027, while the three-province yield insurance scheme is intended to expand nationally later.
