Mumbai Coastal Road Tunnel TBM Parts Set To Arrive
Mumbai is building two tunnels under the city.
A large machine called a Tunnel Boring Machine, or TBM, will dig them.
Parts of this machine are expected to arrive by December.
The tunnels will connect Mindspace in Malad with Charkop in Kandivali.
Together, they will stretch for 3.9 km.
Workers have started preparing a deep shaft in Charkop to lower the machine underground.
The tunnels are part of a larger road project between Versova and Dahisar.
The project is meant to give drivers another north-south route through Mumbai.
TBM parts for Mumbai’s newest twin tunnels are expected to arrive by December.
The planned underground link will run 3.9 km between Malad’s Mindspace and Charkop in Kandivali.
The BMC has begun excavation and piling work in Charkop for a machinery-lowering shaft.
The tunnels are part of the second phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project.
The 22.93 km second phase is intended to connect Versova and Dahisar as an alternate north-south corridor.
