364 Maharashtra Police Personnel Still Await President's Police Medals

Every year, India gives special medals called President's Police Medals to police officers who do a really great job.

The medals are announced twice a year, on Republic Day and Independence Day.

In Maharashtra, 364 police officers and staff have been told they won these medals.

But they are still waiting to actually receive them, some for years.

The medals are supposed to be handed out within a year of the announcement.

Several officers retired before they ever received their medals.

Some reasons given for the delay include time needed to engrave names, the Covid-19 pandemic, and difficulty finding a date for the Governor.

The officers say this is very sad and even feels disrespectful, because wearing the medal on their uniform is a big honour.

Sadly, two of the winners have already died without receiving their medals.
