Every year, India celebrates a special day called Independence Day to remember when the country became free.

On August 15, 2026, the state of Maharashtra marked its 80th Independence Day.

On this day, police officers who have served very well for a long time are given shiny medals as a thank-you.

Fifteen officers and workers from the Navi Mumbai Police were chosen to get these special medals.

The head of the state police, Sadanand Date, announced the awards.

At a flag-hoisting ceremony, Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe gave medals to fourteen awardees.

Commissioner Bharambe himself also received one of the highest medals.

The medals honour honesty, dedication and hard work in keeping citizens safe.

The police have also been focusing on women's safety, cyber security and stopping drugs.

This is a big honour for the officers and their families.
