FDA Suspends Olympia Coffee House Licence Over Food Safety Violations
Food safety officials in Maharashtra temporarily suspended licences at 14 food establishments.
One of them was the 108-year-old Olympia Coffee House in Colaba.
The action followed a complaint from a customer.
Inspectors visited the restaurant on September 16.
They found insects and a urinal near the food storage area.
They also found meat blood residue in a refrigerator and food being handled on the floor.
The inspection reported problems with water, cleaning and food preparation.
Officials also said vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods were not properly separated.
The FDA suspended licences of 14 food establishments across Maharashtra during a festive-season food safety drive.
Olympia Coffee House in Colaba was among the establishments affected, following a consumer complaint.
A September 16 inspection found a urinal in the food storage area, cockroaches, flies and meat blood residue in a refrigerator.
Inspectors reported food being handled on the floor, unclean water and unhygienic preparation and utensil-washing facilities.
The FDA also found poor separation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, damaged chopping boards and inadequately protected food handlers.
