Maharashtra FDA Suspends Cafe Cadell Licence Over Hygiene Violations
Food safety officers inspected several food businesses in and around Mumbai.
They said Cafe Cadell had dirty utensils and problems that could allow vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods to mix.
They also reported poor kitchen ventilation, pest-control concerns and inadequate facilities for workers to wash their hands.
Because of these findings, the restaurant’s food licence was suspended.
Another restaurant, China Town Fast Food Centre, also lost its registration after inspectors reported insects, dirty equipment and other problems.
In a separate case, officials found milk that they said had been diluted with skimmed milk powder and chilled water.
They destroyed nearly 4,710 litres of the milk.
About 15 people were reportedly booked in that case.
The Maharashtra FDA suspended Cafe Cadell’s FSSAI licence after reportedly finding multiple food-safety and hygiene violations.
Inspectors reportedly found dirty cutlery, inadequate ventilation, poor pest control, unsuitable food-contact equipment and slippery flooring.
The inspection also flagged possible cross-contamination between vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods and inadequate staff handwashing facilities.
The FDA separately suspended China Town Fast Food Centre’s registration over alleged adulteration, infestation, poor storage and sanitation problems.
Officials reportedly destroyed 4,710 litres of adulterated or suspected adulterated milk and registered FIRs against around 15 people.
