Mumbai FDA Suspends Six Food Outlets Over Safety Violations
Mumbai food inspectors checked several restaurants, clubs and food shops.
They found problems such as flies, cockroaches, dirty utensils and unsafe food storage.
Six establishments had their food licences or registrations suspended.
These included a radio club, a gymkhana, a McDonald’s kiosk and three other businesses.
Some businesses had not fixed problems found during earlier inspections.
Inspectors also found issues with food temperatures and keeping different foods separate.
The businesses were told to stop buying, making, selling or distributing food.
They could face stricter action if they continue operating without valid licences.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration suspended licences or registration certificates for six Mumbai food establishments.
The affected establishments include Bombay Presidency Radio Club, Khar Gymkhana, a Colaba McDonald’s kiosk, Novaara, Status Restaurant and Bajrang Sweet Mart.
Inspections found pest infestations, poor hygiene, unsafe storage, cross-contamination risks and inadequate temperature controls.
The Colaba McDonald’s kiosk had 18 of 20 previously identified deficiencies unresolved during reinspection, while Novaara had 14 of 25 unresolved deficiencies.
The FDA ordered the establishments to stop food-related operations during the suspension period under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
