CAG chief says tax law simplification exercise should become template for wider govt reforms · theprint.in

In India, there is a big office called the CAG that checks how the government spends money.

The person in charge of that office, Mr. K. Sanjay Murthy, told other government departments to follow a great example.

That example is how tax rules were made much simpler and easier to understand.

A new book tells the story of how tax officers did this work.

The book is called 'The Syntax of Tax: The Story of Income Tax Law Simplification'.

Because of this work, India got a new tax law called the Income Tax Act, 2025.

That law started working on April 1, 2026.

Mr. Murthy says other departments and states should copy this idea to make things easier for people and businesses.

He also said the work was finished very quickly, which is rare.

He praised even younger officials who helped make it happen.
