Three-Day Pavithrotsavam Begins at Vijayawada’s Durga Temple
Pavithrotsavam is a three-day religious festival at Vijayawada’s Durga temple.
It began on Thursday, August 27.
Priests perform special prayers and ceremonies during the festival.
The rituals are meant to spiritually clean the temple.
They also address mistakes or impurities that may have happened during religious services.
Special silk-thread garlands are prepared and offered to the deities.
On the first day, priests performed several pujas, homams and other rituals.
Visitors could receive general darshan after the early morning ceremonies were completed.
The annual three-day Pavithrotsavam began Thursday, August 27, at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam in Vijayawada.
The festival is conducted during Sravana under Agama traditions to purify the temple and address ritual lapses or impurities.
Special pavithra malas made from colourful silk threads were consecrated and offered to the presiding and sub-shrine deities.
Vedic rituals, homams, Vighneswara Puja, Punyahavachanam and Akhanda Deepaaradhana were performed.
Darshan was suspended during the early rituals, with general access scheduled to resume after 8 a.m.
