A big temple in Tirupati called Sri Kodandarama Swamy Temple is holding a special festival called Pavithrotsavams.

On Sunday, people celebrated the second day of this festival.

The day started very early in the morning with prayers.

Special statues of Sri Rama, Sita and Lakshmana were carried to a special prayer area called the Yagashala.

There, priests performed different kinds of rituals, including ceremonies with holy fire.

The statues were given a special bath using milk, curd, honey, sandalwood and coconut water.

Sacred threads called Pavithrams were offered to many deities.

In the evening, the statues were taken on a golden chariot through the temple streets so devotees could see them.

The festival will end on August 10 with more Vedic rituals.
