Railway Board approves CBTC signalling for Bengaluru metro lines
The metro is a big train that carries many people around the city.
Trains need signals, just like cars need traffic lights, so they do not bump into each other.
The Railway Board, a big government office for trains, said yes to a smart new signalling system called CBTC.
This system helps trains know exactly where they are and run safely.
It will be used on two metro lines in Bengaluru, India.
One line is called the Pink Line, and it will run between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere.
The other line, called the Blue Line, will go all the way to Kempegowda International Airport.
Getting approval for the signals is a big step, but the metro cannot open yet.
Next, safety inspectors need to check the trains and do trial runs.
Once all the tests and safety checks pass, people can start riding.
The Railway Board has granted in-principle approval for the CBTC signalling and train control system for BMRCL's Pink Line and the entire Blue Line Phase 2A and 2B.
The approval covers the Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere and the Blue Line from Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport.
BMRCL had been following up with the Railway Board and RDSO for about a month to complete the approval process.
For the Blue Line, the approval was secured well ahead of its proposed commissioning, enabling timely testing and safety certification.
For the Pink Line, BMRCL will now proceed with interim speed certification from RDSO, rolling stock inspection by CCRS, trial runs, and final statutory clearance.
