Sabyasachi Opens New Delhi Flagship As A Living Museum
Sabyasachi Mukherjee has created a very large new fashion store in New Delhi.
The store is designed to feel like a museum instead of an ordinary shop.
It sells clothing, jewellery and accessories.
It also displays old carpets, textiles, furniture and many artworks.
Around 120 chandeliers hang throughout the space.
The rooms are inspired by trains, ships, houseboats and old Kolkata homes.
One room looks like an old Calcutta tram and contains a life-size Bengal tiger sculpture.
The store is meant to help visitors experience Indian art, history and craftsmanship while shopping.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s new flagship spans 26,000 square feet at The Citadel in Mehrauli, New Delhi.
The store is more than twice the size of the designer’s previous Delhi location.
It combines fashion, High Jewellery and accessories with art, antiques and Indian craftsmanship.
The space features around 120 chandeliers, nearly 200 antique carpets, more than 100 antique textiles and approximately 300 artworks.
A recreated Calcutta tram installation with a life-size Bengal tiger reflects Mukherjee’s Kolkata memories and Bengali roots.
