Sabyasachi’s Mehrauli Flagship Blends Luxury, Art And Cultural Memory
Sabyasachi has created a very large new store in Mehrauli, Delhi.
It is designed to feel like a small, magical version of Calcutta rather than an ordinary shop.
Visitors can see clothes, jewellery, paintings, carpets and old decorative objects there.
The store has more than 120 chandeliers and hundreds of other historic and artistic pieces.
Some saris cost Rs 89,000, while some wedding outfits cost about Rs 20 lakh.
Sabyasachi says selling products can help keep traditional Indian crafts alive.
The store will also draw inspiration from The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited is taking about 51% of the new Sabyasachi India company.
The designer says business growth and his creative control should work together.
Sabyasachi’s 26,000-square-foot Mehrauli flagship opens on August 25 as an immersive “mini Calcutta.”
The Delhi store offers bridal couture, menswear, saris, ready-to-wear, high jewellery and accessories.
Its interiors feature more than 120 chandeliers, 200 antique carpets, 300 original paintings and over 100 antique objects.
Delhi contributes approximately 30% of Sabyasachi’s global revenue, and the flagship doubles the brand’s Delhi footprint.
The store begins a multi-year collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art and coincides with ABFRL’s planned 51% stake in Sabyasachi India.
