Nepal Flood Survivor Describes Escape Through Darkened Hydropower Tunnel

A powerful flood trapped workers inside a tunnel at a hydropower project in Nepal.

Vishnu Bahadur Thapa was one of 35 workers who escaped.

He said the lights went out before water rushed into the tunnel.

The workers had to move through dark, neck-high water.

Thapa dragged himself for about three kilometres and thought he might not survive.

After about two hours, the group finally saw daylight.

He was especially worried about his wife, son and daughter, but they were safe.

The flood damaged at least 12 hydropower projects.

It was linked to a glacial landslide, and many people were still dead or missing.
