Tata, Mahindra beat Tesla and BYD in EV efficiency ranking

Some car companies make cars that run on electricity instead of petrol.

A group called the International Council on Clean Transportation checked how much electricity big car companies use.

They found that two companies from India, Tata Motors and Mahindra, used the least electricity for every kilometre their cars drove.

That means their electric cars are very energy-friendly.

Even famous companies like Tesla and BYD did not do as well.

But using less electricity is only one part of the story.

Indian electric cars still take a longer time to charge and cannot drive as far on one charge as some other cars.

In India, electric cars are still not very common yet—they are less than five in every hundred new cars sold.

The country hopes that by 2030, thirty in every hundred new cars sold in India will be electric.
