Leaders Launch Rs 1 Lakh-Crore Global Horticulture Hub
Andhra Pradesh plans to build a very large project for growing fruits and other crops.
It is called the Global Horticulture Hub.
The project may cost about Rs 1 lakh crore.
The government will provide some money and try to attract more funding from private companies.
It will cover many villages and farming areas in 10 districts.
The plan is to use more land for horticulture and produce much more food.
It will also improve irrigation, roads, storage, processing and export facilities.
About 9.6 lakh farmers are expected to benefit directly.
A new Indian School of Agriculture will help farmers use technology and better farming methods.
The Global Horticulture Hub will be launched at Madanapalle on Friday by N Chandrababu Naidu and Nirmala Sitharaman, with Pawan Kalyan also expected to attend.
The project is estimated at about Rs 1 lakh crore, including Rs 40,352 crore in government funding and Rs 60,000 crore targeted from private investment.
It will cover 201 clusters across 303 mandals and 5,869 villages in 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Horticulture cultivation is planned to expand from 8.41 lakh hectares to 14.41 lakh hectares, while production is targeted to rise from 222 lakh metric tonnes to 435 lakh metric tonnes.
The leaders will also lay the foundation stone for the Indian School of Agriculture, a proposed technology and research institution being developed with Reliance Industries Limited.
