Gujarat CM urges handloom purchases to uplift rural artisans
National Handloom Day is a special day in India, celebrated every year on August 7.
The day began in 2015 to remember the Swadeshi movement that started in 1905.
That movement encouraged Indians to use things made in their own country.
Handloom products are traditional items made by skilled weavers.
They show India's rich cultural heritage and help rural families earn money.
On this National Handloom Day, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel bought handloom products in Gandhinagar.
He asked everyone to buy handloom products too.
Buying them helps rural artisans and weavers earn more and live better.
He also wants Indian handloom products to be sold in markets all over the world.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel marked National Handloom Day on Friday by purchasing indigenous handloom products in Gandhinagar.
He visited Garvi Gurjari in Gandhinagar and interacted with the workers there.
Patel urged citizens to prioritise the purchase of handloom products to accelerate the economic upliftment of rural artisans.
He said it is the resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi — referred to as 'Modi ji' — that handloom and handicraft products get a place in the global market.
August 7 has been observed as National Handloom Day since 2015 in memory of the Swadeshi movement that began in 1905.
