Assam Floods: Affected Population Drops Slightly, 441 Villages Still Underwater
In a place called Assam, heavy rain made rivers overflow and flood villages.
Water covered many homes, farms and roads.
Last Monday, about 126,000 people were affected by the floods.
On Tuesday, that number went down a little to about 112,718 people.
Some rivers are still flowing higher than the safe level, so the danger is not over.
Helpers set up 47 camps where nearly 8,000 people can stay safely.
Doctors have set up more than 3,100 medical camps and are giving free medicine to over 200,000 people.
They are also making sure everyone has clean drinking water, because floodwater can make people sick.
Many farms are still underwater and thousands of animals need help too.
Everyone is working hard to protect people until the floodwater goes away.
Assam's flood-affected population fell from 1.26 lakh to 1,12,718 people across seven districts.
Golaghat is the worst-hit district with 65,295 people affected, followed by Sivasagar (18,494) and Nagaon (16,321).
The Dhansiri (S) River at Numaligarh and the Kushiyara River in Sribhumi still flow above danger levels.
Authorities are running 47 relief camps sheltering 7,982 displaced people, along with 45 relief distribution centres.
Crop land across 10,879 hectares remains submerged and more than 29,000 animals have been affected.
