Assam flood situation improves as toll rises to 103
Heavy rain can make rivers grow so big that water spills over the land.
In a place called Assam, this happened and water covered many homes and farms.
When water covers everything like this, it is called a flood.
Floods are dangerous, and in Assam, 103 people have sadly lost their lives because of them.
There is some good news: the water level is going down in a few places, and fewer people are affected now.
Still, around 87,000 people needed help, and more than 13,000 of them are staying in 79 special camps.
The camps give people a dry place to sleep and food like rice, dal, salt, and mustard oil.
The water also hurt farms, roads, bridges, and even 32,944 animals and birds.
Officials are watching the rivers and hope the water keeps going down so everyone can return home.
Assam's flood situation improved, with affected people down to about 87,000 in four districts from almost 1.13 lakh on Tuesday.
The death toll rose to 103 after two more people drowned in Sivasagar and Karbi Anglong districts in the last 24 hours.
Golaghat was the worst-hit district with over 42,000 people affected, followed by Nagaon (20,000) and Sivasagar (15,000).
The administration is operating 79 relief camps and distribution centres in five districts, sheltering 13,011 affected people.
433 villages are under water, 10,884.27 hectares of crops are damaged, and 32,944 domestic animals and poultry are affected; the Dhansiri River is flowing above the danger level at Numaligarh.
