Karnataka Mandates Surprise Village Inspections for Panchayat CEOs
Karnataka wants senior local government officers to visit villages more often.
District panchayat CEOs must visit four or five villages at least twice every week.
They must make surprise visits so officials cannot prepare in advance.
During the visits, they will check attendance and inspect development work.
They will also listen to people’s complaints.

Karnataka Minister Eshwar Khandre ordered district panchayat CEOs to make surprise visits to four or five villages twice a week.
The visits must include checking attendance, reviewing officials’ work, hearing residents’ grievances and resolving some issues immediately.
Karnataka has more than 5,900 gram panchayats and 57,879 habitations across 31 districts.
Khandre said 4.45 crore of Karnataka’s 6.13 crore residents live in 26,589 villages.
CEOs were told to monitor rural schemes, drinking water, roads, sanitation, waste management and lake encroachment removal.
