Telangana to perform Varuna Yagam for bountiful monsoon rains
The Telangana government in India wants good rain during this monsoon season.
This year the monsoon has had less rain than expected because of a weather pattern called El Niño.
To ask for more rain, the government is holding a special Hindu ceremony called Varuna Yagam.
Lord Varuna is the Hindu god of rain.
Priests, Vedic scholars, and astrologers from the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Yadagirigutta will lead the ceremony.
The ceremony will happen on August 10 at the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir, a big water storage area, at the Vijaya Vihar premises.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy decided the ceremony should happen and will attend its final part, called Purnahuti, at 3:24 PM.
Special prayers will be offered so the Krishna and Godavari rivers and local water tanks fill up, helping farms and animals.
