Vijayawada temple to hold Varuna Yagam rituals seeking rainfall
A temple in Vijayawada, India is planning a special three-day prayer event.
The event includes special rituals called Varuna Yagams and Varuna Japams.
People will chant and make offerings to ask for rain.
The weather has been very dry, so they want the rain to come.
They also hope rivers, tanks and reservoirs will fill with water.
Farmers want the rain so their crops can grow well.
The event will happen on a hill called Indrakeeladri at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam.
Many different ceremonies will take place each day, from early morning to evening.
The event will end with a big final offering called Maha Purnahuti.
A three-day Vedic ritual programme featuring Varuna Yagams, Varuna Japams and Ghata Abhishekam will be held atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada from August 14 to 16.
The rituals are being performed to seek timely and abundant rainfall, mitigate drought-like conditions and ensure prosperity for the farming community.
The programme is organised at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam in accordance with the directions of the Endowments Department.
Day one begins with Vighneswara Puja and Varuna Anuvaka recitations at Durga Ghat, followed by homams and special worship of Varuna, Rishya Sringa, Navagrahas and Ashta Dikpalakas.
The final day on August 16 includes collection of sacred Krishna river water, Ghata Abhishekam and concludes with Maha Purnahuti at the old Yagasala at 10.30 am.
