Assam records 11.6 lakh online census submissions; house-to-house phase begins
A census is a big count of all the people living in a place.
In Assam, a part of India, people were asked to fill in their family details online.
More than 11.64 lakh families did this before the online part ended on August 16.
The three districts that did the best were Cachar, Sribhumi and Kokrajhar.
Now, trained workers called enumerators will visit homes door to door.
They will collect the same kind of information in person.
This part started on Monday and will last until September 15.
The officials want to make sure no family is missed and no family is counted twice.
The information is kept private and is protected by a law called the Census Act, 1948.
The officials thanked everyone for helping and asked for the same help in the next phase.
More than 11.64 lakh households in Assam submitted their details online during the Self Enumeration phase of Census 2027, which ended on August 16.
Cachar, Sribhumi and Kokrajhar were the three best-performing districts in terms of self-enumeration participation.
Director of Census Operations, Assam, Biswajit Pegu announced the completion of the online phase at a press conference in Guwahati.
The Houselisting and Housing Census house-to-house phase began across Assam on Monday and will continue until September 15.
Officials said enumeration will follow the principle of 'No Omission, No Duplication', with census information protected under the Census Act, 1948.
