Advocates Prepare to Assist Voters on Electoral Roll Notices
In India, there is a big list called the electoral roll that says who can vote.
Sometimes there are mistakes on the list, like a name spelled differently.
The Election Commission is checking this list.
They are sending special notices to many people with mistakes.
More than 60 lakh people in Telangana might get these notices.
Hyderabad has the most mistakes, with over six lakh voters.
It can be scary to get a notice, but helpers called advocates are there to help.
They are lawyers who explain how to answer the notice so people do not lose their vote.
Some of them are doing this for free.
Anyone who gets a notice can ask for help.
More than 60.5 lakh voters across the state have anomalies in the electoral roll under the special intensive revision (SIR).
Hyderabad district recorded the highest number of affected voters at 6,72,724, about 59 per cent of the votes digitised by August 10.
The Election Commission's draft roll is to be released on August 17, after which electoral registration officers will issue notices.
The AIMIM has deployed more than 250 advocates, with training support from the Kolkata-based SABAR Institute.
Common anomalies include differences in name spellings and mismatches in surnames or the names of fathers and husbands.
