Telangana expands welfare schemes with new pensions, ration cards
On August 15, which is India's Independence Day, the Telangana government is launching many new welfare programs.
It wants to help more people in the state.
The government will give monthly pensions, or money for older and needy people, to 2.25 lakh more people.
This includes patients with Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia.
Around 5 lakh more families will get money to help pay for cooking gas.
More families will also get free electricity if they use less than 200 units.
The government will hand out new smart ration cards, which help people buy food, to 1.05 crore people.
The cards will be released by the Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy.
Starting August 15, there will also be a new law to protect people who deliver food or drive cabs.
A big new hospital, TIMS, will open on the same day in Sanathnagar.
Telangana will add 2.25 lakh new pension beneficiaries across 11 categories, including Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia patients, costing Rs 500 crore annually.
Around 5 lakh new families will get a gas subsidy of Rs 500 per cylinder under the Mahalakshmi scheme.
Free electricity under the Gruha Jyothi scheme will cover 3-4 lakh additional families consuming up to 200 units.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will release 1.05 crore smart ration cards on August 15, starting in Sangareddy district.
A new welfare law for gig workers and the inauguration of TIMS in Sanathnagar are also set for August 15.
