40 held in Bengaluru raid targeting illegal Bangladeshi migrants
Early on Saturday, police in the Whitefield area of Bengaluru carried out a big checking drive.
They wanted to find people who may be living in India without permission.
The police visited 30 different places across six police station areas.
About 40 people were asked to come to the police station for questions.
Officers looked closely at identity papers such as Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and voter ID cards.
They also asked people about their home villages and local police stations back home.
The checks also covered sheds in the Varthur neighbourhood and areas with more than 100 structures.
A senior police officer said the orders came from the Police Commissioner.
If the checks show someone is living illegally, they may be sent back to their home country.
