Chandigarh’s 24×7 Push Expands, But Businesses Hesitate After Midnight
Chandigarh has allowed some businesses to operate all day and night.
Nearly 200 businesses are now on the 24×7 list.
These include places selling food, medicine, groceries and fuel.
The list started with only 48 businesses.
This means the program has grown more than three times.
However, being allowed to stay open does not mean every business wants to operate overnight.
City officials are encouraging more businesses to register.
They say safety for women and following labour laws are important parts of the program.
Nearly 200 Chandigarh establishments are now listed for 24×7 commercial operations.
The list includes fast-food outlets, chai counters, pharmacies, grocery stores, paan shops and petrol pumps.
The number has increased more than threefold from the initial 48 establishments.
The initiative was launched nearly two years ago under the city’s ease-of-doing-business program.
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav said women’s safety and labour-law compliance are being ensured with relevant departments and Chandigarh Police.
