Deport Nigerian nationals in detention centers, Karnataka High Court says
Some people from Nigeria were arrested in India because the police said they were selling drugs.
They were kept in special places called foreigner detention centres.
A high court judge in Karnataka said these people should be sent back to their own country, Nigeria.
The court was hearing a case of one man named Adewole Adetutu Anu.
He wanted the police case against him to be cancelled.
His lawyer said there was no proof that he did anything wrong.
The police said they had WhatsApp chats about buying drugs and that he sold drugs to others.
The court asked the police to bring the lab reports so everyone could see the evidence.
The case will continue on August 19.
The Karnataka High Court orally observed that Nigerian nationals lodged in foreigner detention centres in the state should be deported to their home country.
A Division Bench headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna heard a petition by Adewole Adetutu Anu, a Nigerian national, seeking quashing of an FIR in an alleged drug-peddling case.
The petitioner's counsel argued there was no material establishing his client's involvement, noting the mobile phone had been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory.
The government advocate cited WhatsApp conversations allegedly showing the petitioner discussing the purchase of narcotic substances and selling drugs to other accused persons.
The Bench directed the Mangaluru North Police to submit forensic examination material and adjourned the hearing to August 19.
