Delhi Police arrests Nigerian proclaimed offender in Chandigarh NDPS case
A man from Nigeria was staying in India without permission.
He had been in trouble before in a city called Chandigarh for a case about drugs.
A court wanted him to come for his trial, but he did not.
So the court called him a 'proclaimed offender,' which means the police are allowed to arrest him.
Police in Delhi were checking people from other countries who stayed in India too long.
They found him in a neighbourhood called Uttam Nagar.
He was using a fake name, Daniel Marton, and fake travel papers to try to trick them.
But police in Delhi and Chandigarh worked together and found his real name, Michael Wilfred M. Bonu.
Then Chandigarh police came and took him away for his court case.
Police did not find any drugs on him when he was caught.
The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Dwarka District Police arrested Nigerian national Michael Wilfred M. Bonu from Uttam Nagar, Delhi.
Bonu, 45, was declared a proclaimed offender on August 23, 2021 in FIR No. 87/2019 under the NDPS Act registered at Sector-31 Police Station, Chandigarh.
The arrest was part of Operation VISTA 1.0, a drive against overstaying foreigners launched by the Delhi Police Commissioner.
He allegedly concealed his identity using forged coloured photocopies of travel documents while posing as Daniel Marton of Lagos, Nigeria.
His identity was confirmed through dossier photographs, and he was handed over to Chandigarh Police's Proclaimed Offenders Cell; no recovery was made.
