India’s Defence Minister met leaders of 16 government-owned defence companies.

He praised them for helping India make more defence equipment inside the country.

He said the companies should deliver products on time and depend less on imports.

He also asked them to sell more products to other countries.

Their equipment should be as good as products made anywhere in the world.

The minister said research should produce useful technologies, inventions and working equipment.

He also said the companies need strong supplies and repair abilities during wars.

Seven companies gave the government dividend cheques worth Rs 3,951 crore.
