Centre Raises Pulse Seed Subsidy to 100 Percent

The government has increased the money it gives farmers who buy certified pulse seeds.

Farmers growing newer tur, urad and lentil varieties can get the full seed cost covered, up to ₹12,000 per quintal.

Farmers growing gram and other pulses can get 75% support, up to ₹6,000 per quintal.

Older but still relatively recent varieties will also receive increased assistance.

Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne had asked the Union government for a higher subsidy.

He said expensive certified seeds were discouraging farmers from using them.

The government hopes better seeds will improve crop yields and pulse production.

The new rules begin on August 28, 2026.

Key facts

Eligible newer seeds: Certified tur, urad and lentil varieties released within the last five years.
Maximum newer-seed subsidy: 100% of seed cost for tur, urad and lentil, capped at ₹12,000 per quintal.
Gram and other pulses: 75% subsidy or ₹6,000 per quintal, whichever is lower.
Older eligible varieties: Varieties more than five but less than 10 years old receive 75% support for tur, urad and lentil and 50% for gram and other pulses.
Krishi Mapper assistance: ₹30 per hectare under the scheme’s flexi component.
Earlier subsidy: The previous support was 50% or up to ₹6,000 per quintal for pulses other than gram, with gram capped at ₹4,000 per quintal.
Implementation period: Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, 2026-27 to 2030-31.
