Tamil Nadu hikes paddy, sugarcane procurement incentives for farmers

Tamil Nadu is a state in India where many farmers grow paddy, which is rice, and sugarcane.

The leader of the state, called the Chief Minister, said farmers will now get more money for their crops.

This extra money is called a procurement incentive, and it is added on top of the price the government pays.

The paddy buying season starts on September 1.

For fine grade paddy, farmers will get Rs 289 more for every quintal.

For common grade paddy, they will get Rs 159 more.

Sugarcane farmers will get Rs 709 more for every tonne, making the total price Rs 4,000 per tonne.

The Chief Minister said this is the biggest increase in the state's history.

The government made this decision even though the state does not have much money right now.

The Chief Minister promised that the government will keep standing with farmers.
