Rupa Dutta Granted Bail in ₹1.48 Lakh Colaba Theft Case
Rupa Dutta is an actress from Bengal who acts in Hindi and Bengali movies and TV shows.
Police in Mumbai, a big city in India, arrested her because they think she stole someone's purse.
The purse was taken in a busy area called Colaba while the owner was walking between Babulnath Temple and Colaba.
The purse had a shiny gold bracelet with diamonds, some cash, and a pair of Apple headphones inside.
The owner told the police, and the police watched security camera videos.
The police said the videos showed Rupa following the owner, and they said they found some of the stolen things with her.
Rupa went to court, where a judge decided she could go home for now.
To be free, she had to promise to pay ₹50,000 if she broke the rules, and she cannot leave the country without permission.
Her lawyer told the court that Rupa was blamed by mistake and did not do anything wrong.
The judge will decide later, in another court hearing, whether she really took the purse.
Bengali actress Rupa Umashankar Dutta was granted bail by a Metropolitan Magistrate Court in a ₹1.48 lakh theft case in Mumbai's Colaba.
Bail was set on a personal bond of ₹50,000, with conditions not to tamper with evidence or leave the country without court permission.
The case is based on a complaint by Marine Drive resident Dimple Singhvi, whose purse was allegedly stolen on July 12, 2026, between Babulnath Temple and Colaba.
The purse reportedly contained a diamond-studded gold bracelet worth ₹1.20 lakh, ₹10,000 in cash, Apple AirPods worth ₹15,000, a wallet and personal documents.
