Microsoft’s New Hyderabad Cloud Region Targets Zero-Water Cooling

Microsoft is building a new cloud-computing center in Hyderabad, India.

A cloud region is a group of buildings that store and process digital information.

Microsoft says the new center will use almost no water to keep its machines cool.

It is being designed to handle artificial intelligence tasks from the start.

The center will have three separate availability zones to support its operations.

Microsoft also says it is creating five million liters of groundwater capacity.

The company has contracted one gigawatt of renewable energy in India, with 630 megawatts already flowing.

Microsoft wants its infrastructure to become carbon negative, water positive and zero waste by 2030.

The company expects India’s data-center capacity to grow substantially by 2035.
