Kanwar Yatra 2026: Dates, Routes, and Safety Measures

The Kanwar Yatra is a big religious trip that happens every year in India.

In 2026, it starts on July 30 and ends on August 11.

Devotees, called Kanwariyas, go to places like Haridwar and Gangotri to collect holy water from the Ganga River.

They carry this water on a bamboo pole called a Kanwar, walking many miles, often barefoot, and wearing saffron clothes.

When they reach Shiva temples, they pour the water over the Shiva lingam in a ceremony called Jalabhishek.
