Consumer Commission Orders Holiday Firm to Pay Rs 95,000
Stephen Immanuel paid Rs 35,000 for a holiday membership.
He said the company promised seven days of hotel stays each year for his family.
When he tried to book stays, he found extra rules that he said had not been explained earlier.
Some hotels were outside the cities, and one day of travel could use two membership days.
He was also told to pay Rs 1,600 for breakfast.
A consumer commission decided that these conditions were unfair and showed poor service.
It ordered the company to return his money with interest.
The company must also pay compensation and his legal costs.
The Tirunelveli consumer commission ordered Orchid Vacation Limited to refund a Rs 35,000 membership fee with interest.
Consumer Stephen Immanuel said promised holiday facilities were not provided as represented during enrollment.
He alleged that undisclosed booking conditions included distant hotels, reduced membership days and a breakfast charge.
The commission awarded Rs 50,000 for mental agony and deficiency of service, plus Rs 10,000 for litigation expenses.
The company must pay within one month, or the amount will accrue 9 per cent interest.
