Astronauts Complete ISS Antenna Installation After Earlier Spacewalk Delay
Astronauts Anil Menon and Sophie Adenot went outside the International Space Station.
They installed a new antenna for sending fast communications to mission control.
The antenna was needed because the station’s previous antenna had failed.
The astronauts could not finish the job during their earlier spacewalk.
Menon was carried near the work area using the station’s robotic arm.
Other astronauts inside the station helped guide the arm and support the spacewalkers.
This was Menon’s third spacewalk and Adenot’s second.
Adenot also became the first French woman to perform a spacewalk.
Anil Menon and Sophie Adenot installed a replacement Ku-band communications antenna on the International Space Station.
The antenna was mounted on the Z1 truss above the Unity module to restore communications redundancy.
The spacewalk was the 283rd in International Space Station history.
Menon completed his third spacewalk, while Adenot completed her second and became the first French woman to perform an EVA.
Jack Hathaway and Jessica Meir supported the operation from inside the station, including robotic-arm and spacesuit assistance.
